As Volkswagen Pushed to Be No. 1, Ambitions Fueled a ScandalVolkswagen’s unbridled ambition to become the largest automaker in the world is central to one of the great corporate scandals of the last decade. The Environmental Protection Agency began enforcing stricter standards on mileage, and rather than finding solutions to conform to the standards like other companies, Volkswagen chose to install software in 11 million diesel cars that cheated on emissions tests. Environmental protection refers to the practice of preserving and protecting the natural environment from pollution and other human activities that can harm it. This can include actions such as reducing pollution, preserving natural resources, protecting wildlife, and promoting sustainable development. Environmental protection laws and regulations are often put in place by governments to ensure that these practices are being followed and to hold individuals and organizations accountable for any negative impacts they may have on the environment.
