What if your county’s jail is overcrowded and building conditions are deteriorating? Despite budget cuts, you must propose plans for the jail’s future at the next community meeting. What do you say and why. Be specific.
SOLUTION
If the jail in my county is overcrowded and the building conditions are deteriorating, I would propose several potential solutions at the next community meeting.
First, I would propose increasing funding for rehabilitation and re-entry programs to help reduce the number of inmates in the jail. These programs have been shown to be effective in reducing recidivism and could help to decrease the number of people in the jail.
Second, I would propose implementing alternatives to incarceration, such as electronic monitoring and community service, for low-level offenders. This would help to decrease the jail population and also save money on incarceration costs.
Third, I would propose working with other counties to explore the possibility of using their facilities to temporarily house inmates from my county. This would provide a short-term solution to overcrowding while we work on more long-term solutions.
