Skeletal muscles are the muscles that attach to the bones of the skeleton and are responsible for movement. They are composed of muscle fibers, each of which is made up of individual muscle cells. These muscle cells contain protein filaments, which slide past one another, allowing the muscle to contract and produce force. Skeletal muscles are controlled by the nervous system, which sends signals to the muscle fibers to contract or relax.
Joints are the places where bones come together. There are different types of joints in the body, each with its own unique characteristics. The three main types of joints are fibrous joints, cartilaginous joints, and synovial joints.
Fibrous joints are immovable or slightly movable. Cartilaginous joints are slightly movable. Synovial joints are the most movable type of joint, they are surrounded by a capsule filled with synovial fluid, which lubricates the joint and helps to reduce friction. The bones in synovial joints are also connected by ligaments, which help to stabilize the joint.
