Clostridium difficile, commonly referred to as C. difficile or simply C-diff, is a type of bacteria that can cause diarrhea and other digestive problems. It is a significant cause of healthcare-associated infections and is particularly dangerous for people who are already hospitalized or receiving medical care.

C-diff is transmitted through the fecal-oral route, meaning that the bacteria can be spread from person to person through contaminated surfaces, objects, or hands. When people touch contaminated surfaces or objects and then touch their mouth or face, they can become infected with the bacteria.

As a nurse, it is important to take several steps to protect yourself and others when caring for a patient with C-diff:

1. Hand hygiene: Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
2. Personal protective equipment: Wear gloves and gowns when entering the patient’s room, and avoid wearing anything outside of the room that could be contaminated.
