Specifications:

Submission: A 10-12 slide PowerPoint presentation or Prezi that answers the questions posed above. Include speaker notes or a voice-over, images, and videos where applicable.  If you choose the voice-over option, you will upload your recording web link (URL).

In your presentation:

SOLUTION

Spider-Man reflects the culture of the 1960s in several ways. At the time, the Cold War was at its height, and there was a sense of uncertainty and fear in the air. This is reflected in Spider-Man’s origin story, as he gains his powers from a radioactive spider and uses them to fight against criminals and evil. The character also represents the youth culture of the 1960s, as Peter Parker, the alter ego of Spider-Man, is a high school student.

In terms of the monomyth, several elements are apparent in Spider-Man’s story:

1. The call to adventure: Peter is bitten by the radioactive spider and gains his powers, which sets him on a journey as Spider-Man.
2. Refusal of the call: At first, Peter tries to ignore his responsibility to use his powers for good and lead a normal life.
3. Meeting with the mentor: Uncle Ben, Peter’s guardian, serves as a mentor figure and teaches him the famous quote, “With great power comes great responsibility.”
4. Crossing the threshold: Peter ultimately accepts his role as Spider-Man and crosses the threshold into a world of superheroics.
5. Tests, allies, and enemies: Throughout his adventures, Peter faces numerous tests and battles against his enemies, and forms alliances with other heroes.
6. The supreme ordeal: Peter faces several supreme ordeals, including the death of Uncle Ben, which serves as a turning point in his journey as Spider-Man.
7. The reward: Peter is rewarded with the satisfaction of using his powers for good and the love and respect of those he has helped.
