Captain America was created in 1941 during the height of World War II and was designed as a symbol of American patriotism and hope. The character was created to inspire American troops and to boost morale on the home front.

At the time, the United States was in the midst of a national identity crisis. The country was torn between its isolationist roots and its role as a global superpower. Captain America reflected the ideals of American exceptionalism and the belief that the country was a beacon of hope and freedom in the world. He was a symbol of strength, courage, and morality, and he stood for everything that America aspired to be.

In terms of the monomyth, Captain America embodies many elements of the hero’s journey. Firstly, the call to adventure is evident in his transformation from frail young man to a super soldier through the administration of the super soldier serum.
