These newly developed technologies will cause significant changes in how we spend our lives, how we take care of our bodies, and how we might forestall an environmental catastrophe. These days, technological advancement occurs at a very quick rate. At times, it may seem as if a brand-new piece of technology is being developed that will completely transform the world soon. However, since there are so many enormous technical advancements taking place all the time, it is easy to lose sight of the incredible ways in which the world is evolving. There are already artificial intelligence systems that can write poetry from scratch and create visuals with nothing more than a word suggestion. Additionally, there are bionic eyes, enormous holograms, and food that is manufactured in laboratories (Science Focus, 2022). All these development in technology means there will be more number of robots, technology gadgets and less of a human to perform jobs. In this article, I will be discussing some of the major changes that technology, especially in the field of artificial intelligence, has brought about and how it is replacing human jobs. 1. Artificial Intelligence The term “artificial intelligence” (AI) refers to a collection of technologies that, when combined, give computers the ability to carry out a wide range of complex tasks. These tasks include being able to read, understand, and translate both written and spoken language, as well as analyze data, make suggestions, and do other things. Since the year 2000, the use of robots and other forms of automation technology has led to the elimination of 1.7 million manufacturing jobs (Thomas, 2021). AI is a set of technologies that are primarily based on machine learning and deep learning. These technologies are used to analyze data, make predictions and forecasts, classify objects, process natural language, make recommendations, find intelligent data, and do other things. AI is an operational level for business use. Here are some of the benefits of AI. AI can automate procedures and work alone. AI can automate cybersecurity by monitoring and analyzing network traffic. A smart factory could use hundreds of AI technologies, such as robots that use computer vision to move around the factory floor, scan items for flaws, build digital twins, or use real-time analytics to track efficiency and output. AI may be able to get rid of human mistakes in data processing, analytics, industrial assembly, and other jobs by using automation and algorithms that repeat tasks. AI can swiftly uncover patterns and correlations in data that humans may overlook. AI is unconstrained by time, breaks, or other human constraints. AI and machine learning may operate “always on” in the cloud. AI could be used to automate tasks that are done over and over again, freeing up people to work on bigger problems. AI may be used to automate operations like document verification, phone call transcription, and answering basic client inquiries such as “What time do you close?” Robots are often employed to replace humans in “dull, unclean, or hazardous” activities. (“What Is Artificial Intelligence (AI)? | Google Cloud,” n.d.). These show that robots are the future. One of the famous trends of 2022 in the field of AI is ChatGPT. The technology behind GPT-3 seems straightforward. It swiftly responds to your requests, inquiries, or suggestions. The technology to execute this is far more complex than it seems. Text datasets from the internet were used to train the model. This has an incredible 570 GB of information from books, webtexts, Wikipedia, articles, and other online sources. Even more precisely, the algorithm was given 300 billion words. It uses probability to predict what the next word in a phrase should be. The model underwent supervised testing to reach the point where it could do this. Here, inputs like “What color is the wood of a tree?” were supplied into the system. The team is planning on producing the proper result, but that does not guarantee that it will. When it makes a mistake, the team enters the right response back into the program to teach it the right response and aid in knowledge development. ChatGPT and other kinds of AI could affect a wide range of jobs in the media industry, such as those in advertising, technical writing, journalism, and any other job that requires creating content. Like journalists, paralegals and legal assistants have to take in and make sense of a lot of information before they can write a legal brief or opinion. Jobs involving language are automatable. Market research analysts may be sensitive to AI-driven transformations. AI can identify trends in the market, highlight what investments in a portfolio are doing better and worse, communicate all that, and then use various other forms of data by, say, a financial company to forecast a better investment mix. This shows financial analysts, personal financial advisors’ jobs could be easily replaced (Mok & Zinkula, 2023). 2. Virtual reality The term “virtual reality” (VR) refers to an environment that has been created by a computer and has sights and objects that give the impression that they are genuine. This gives the user the impression that they are completely immersed in their surroundings. A piece of hardware known as a virtual reality headset or helmet is used to provide the user access to this world. Virtual reality (VR) lets us play video games in a way that’s like being a character in the game, learn how to do heart surgery, or improve the quality of training so that athletes can do their best. Virtual reality is one of the technologies with the greatest development potential. According to the most recent IDC Research (2018) predictions, investment in VR and AR will more than double over the next four years, reaching 15.5 billion euros by 2022. Also, these technologies will be very important for companies’ plans to go digital, and by 2019, investments in this area will have surpassed those in the consumer sector. Because of this, it is expected that by 2020, more than half of the biggest companies in Europe will have a strategy for VR and RA. Now, the market wants apps that do more than just provide leisure, tourism, or marketing and are cheaper for users to buy. Virtual interfaces also need to be fixed so bugs like clipping, which makes solid objects look like they can be passed through, don’t happen. Or to reduce the effects that VR has on people, like motion sickness, which is a feeling of dizziness caused by the difference between how our bodies move and what we see in the virtual world (CORPORATIVA, n.d.). We have heard a lot about Facebook and its development of the metaverse. So, what exactly is a metaverse, and why is it getting so much attention? It is a mix of virtual reality, augmented reality, and video. Users “live” in a digital universe. Supporters of the metaverse think that people will use it to work, play, and stay in touch with their friends through things like concerts, conferences, and virtual trips around the world. The social networking site that used to be called Facebook has already put a lot of money into VR, like when it bought Oculus in 2014. Meta imagines a future where digital avatars work, travel, and have fun in a variety of virtual environments that they interact with each other in. Even while he acknowledges that the internet as we know it has its flaws, Zuckerberg is certain that the metaverse will one day replace it. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, explained the company’s renaming last month, saying, “The next platform for media will be even more immersive and embodied, where you are in the experience, not just looking at it, and we call this the metaverse.” (Snider & Molina, 2021). Recently, Travis Scott hosted a concert in the metaverse using a platform like Roblox. Ariana Grande hosted a concert in Fortnite with more than 40 million attendees. All of the crew members who hosted stadiums were in the virtual world, making it one of the first virtual world concerts. Because of this virtual world, a lot of jobs, from security guards to crew members, have been lost. Jobs for event organizers, ticket printers, designers, social media influencers, event managers, creative designers, and merchandise shops are disappearing. increase virtual shows. There will be no jobs for lighting managers, security personnel, crews, account managers, or financial managers. Videographers would not be required for these kinds of shows. If shows took place in a virtual world, individuals wouldn’t have to move from one city to another. If there is less traveling, there will be less use of transportation like planes, taxis, which would result in less hiring of pilots, crews, or taxi drivers, causing job losses. One of the best ways that virtual reality is used in the travel industry is to give virtual tours of hotels and hotel rooms. The main benefit of this is that it lets potential customers see what the hotel looks like before they go there. This is better than standard pictures because it shows more of what the hotel looks like, resulting in more job losses. Some companies have taken VR one step further by offering an entire booking process and user interface that can be seen through a virtual reality headset. This basically gets rid of the need to use a computer mouse or touch screen to book a hotel room or flight. When combined with other ways to use virtual reality, this can make booking a hotel much easier. The user can look around different rooms and facilities, compare room types, check out local sights, and look for important information or facts, all in one place. The entire travel agency is being forced to close due to the virtual world. Virtual reality solutions for the travel industry are changing how people interact with travel companies at every step of the customer journey. But virtual reality devices can also play a key role in making the metaverse real, and when used as metaverse devices, they can also help people have meaningful social interactions causing jobs losses (Revfine.com, 2022).
