Roman architecture is a style of architecture developed by the ancient Romans that lasted from the 8th century BCE to the 4th century CE. It was heavily influenced by Greek and Etruscan architectural styles and is known for its innovative use of materials, such as concrete and marble, and its distinctive features, such as arches, domes, and monumental columns.
One of the most iconic examples of Roman architecture is the Colosseum, a large amphitheater built in 80 CE that could seat over 50,000 people. Another famous example is the Pantheon, a temple built in Rome in 27 BCE that is considered one of the greatest architectural masterpieces of all time.
The Romans also built numerous aqueducts to carry water over long distances, such as the Aqua Claudia and Anio Novus aqueducts in Rome. They also designed monumental arches, such as the Arch of Titus, to commemorate military victories and commemorate important events.
Roman architecture had a profound impact on the development of Western architecture and continues to be studied and imitated today.
