Prioritize nursing care strategies for clients with cardiovascular disorders.
Cardiac disease a one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Since it is so prevalent, you want to ensure your co-workers are fully prepared to care for patients. You are hosting a lunch to provide a refresher on heart disease and how to care for patients. During the lunch, you will present a PowerPoint Presentation to your co-workers.
Choose one of the cardiac diseases that we covered in the last two modules. Within your presentation include:
The chosen cardiac disease is Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), which is a chronic condition that affects the heart’s blood vessels. CAD is caused by the buildup of plaque in the coronary arteries, which can cause blockages and decrease blood flow to the heart.
The buildup of plaque in the coronary arteries is caused by various risk factors, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, and diabetes. Over time, the plaque can narrow the arteries, leading to angina (chest pain) or a heart attack.
CAD is diagnosed using a variety of tests, including electrocardiogram (ECG), stress test, echocardiogram, angiogram, and blood tests to measure cholesterol levels.
The treatment for CAD includes lifestyle changes, medications, and, in some cases, surgery. Lifestyle changes such as a heart-healthy diet, regular exercise, smoking cessation, and stress management are recommended. Medications such as statins, aspirin, beta-blockers, and ACE inhibitors are prescribed to lower cholesterol, prevent blood clots, and lower blood pressure. In cases of severe CAD, procedures such as angioplasty or bypass surgery may be necessary.
