First Assignment:
As Christians, we should respond to questions of injustice in the world today regardless of culture, creed, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status with compassion, empathy, and a desire to seek justice. The Bible teaches us to love our neighbors as ourselves and to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. This means that we should not only be concerned about our own well-being but also the well-being of others, particularly those who are marginalized and oppressed. In his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” This statement is still true today. As Christians, we should not only seek justice for ourselves but also for those who are experiencing injustice. We should be advocates for the oppressed, speaking out against systems and structures that perpetuate inequality.
