Multiculturalism can be described as “the way in which communities with different cultures can come together for various reasons and live within the framework of common values.” (Dogan, 2017, p. 76)

Multiculturalism presents both opportunities and challenges to my educational journey. One of the opportunities that multiculturalism offers is the chance to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and learn from their experiences. For instance, studying with international students provides a unique opportunity to learn about different cultures, values, and beliefs. This exposure to diverse perspectives enhances my understanding of the world and enables me to see issues from different angles. It also helps me to appreciate and respect different cultures and beliefs. On the other hand, multiculturalism can also present challenges. For example, communication can be difficult when individuals from different cultures speak different languages or have different accents. Cultural differences can also cause misunderstandings and conflict, especially when people hold different values and beliefs. This can be particularly challenging in group projects, where there may be differences in communication styles and decision-making processes. However, multiculturalism has the potential to contribute to the elimination of prejudices and the creation of an environment of tolerance. According to Dogan (2017), multiculturalism can promote understanding and acceptance of diverse cultures and, as a result, contribute to the elimination of prejudices. Additionally, Kennedy (2018) suggests that multiculturalism can encourage individuals to reflect on their own cultural identity, leading to greater self-awareness and appreciation of diversity.
