Review, Research Objective, Questions, and Hypotheses

Research Design (20 points)

Research design Definition and Description (10 points/1 paragraph)

What is the research design used in your resource? Explain the design (search (e.g., textbook, course module resources, Sage database, etc.), read the definition of the design, then explain it and cite the resource you used to understand it).

The design is not to be guessed (the specific design should be noted in your chosen article by the authors).

Provide at least one Full (MEAL) Scholarly Paragraph. Your Evidence Should be Related to the definition of your study’s specific design (thus, Evidence should include at least 2 resources, including your quantitative article and the resource you reviewed to understand the research design used).

Appropriateness of the Research Design (10 points/2 paragraph)

How appropriate was the design used in the study to obtain the needed data? Explain why.

Provide at least one Full (MEAL) Scholarly Paragraph. Your Evidence Should be Related to the application (is this design used in quantitative studies/why was this specific design used?) of your study’s specific design.

Does the design provide a means to examine all of the objectives, questions, or hypotheses? Give a rationale for your response (why is the fit between the research design and the research question appropriate or not appropriate? How (specifically) does the design allow the researchers to answer their research question (RQ)?)

Provide at least one Full (MEAL) Scholarly Paragraph. Your Evidence Should be Related to the fit between the design and the RQ.

Research Problem and Purpose (20 points/1 paragraph)

State (paraphrase, do not quote) the study purpose as stated under ‘purpose’ or ‘aim’ within your study? Describe the research variables, subjects, and settings identified within the purpose statement?

Provide at least one Full (MEAL) Scholarly Paragraph. Your Evidence Should be

Related to Purpose in the research study (definition).

The Literature Review (20 points/1 paragraph)

In which sections of the study did the authors review literature related to the

studied problem?

How did the authors’ literature review sections help you understand the context and rationale for their study?

Provide at least one Full (MEAL) Scholarly Paragraph. Your Evidence Should be Related to the definition and purpose of the literature review section of the research study.

Study Framework (20 points)

Framework Definition and Description (if stated in the study) (20 points/1 paragraph)

Is the framework/theory/model explicitly expressed or must the reviewer extract the framework from implicit statements in the literature review? If stated, what specific framework was used?

If stated, locate the resource that describes the framework/theory/model used in your chosen study and define it/explain it in your response.

Provide at least one Full (MEAL) Scholarly Paragraph. Your Evidence Should be Related to the definition of framework/theory/model.

If the Framework is not Identified in Your Study: Framework (Suitable for Your Study) Example Definition and Description and Rationale (20 points/1 paragraph)

If the framework or theory was not stated, what theory or model would be appropriate for this study, and why?

Locate resources on one of the specific models/theories or frameworks that would fit this study and explain how it could guide the study you are critiquing.

Provide at least one Full (MEAL) Scholarly Paragraph. Your Evidence Should be Related to the chosen nursing framework/theory/model.

Research Objective, Questions, Hypothesis (20 points/1 paragraph)

Describe in your own words the objectives, questions, and/or hypotheses for the study?

How were the objectives, questions, and/or hypotheses linked to the research purpose and study framework?

Provide at least one Full (MEAL) Scholarly Paragraph. Your Evidence Should be Related to research study Alignment (between the study purpose, research question, and study framework).

Please ensure no overlap in your replies to questions/paper sections between part 1 and part 2 quantitative assignment papers.

• MEAL tool is used consistently to structure scholarly paragraphs.

• Title page and Reference page included and in APA.

• Ensure that all headings in your paper are exactly as they appear in this

rubric (including points); all questions under each heading must be addressed.

• PICOT research question (included in this paper appendix).

• Your chosen article is relevant to your PICOT and is primary research study

(please review the definitions of primary and secondary research).

• Number each page.

• Use Times New Roman (12 font size) typeface.

SOLUTION

Research Design Definition and Description:

In this section, you need to identify the specific research design used in the study, explain its definition, and provide a brief description of how it was used. You should cite at least two sources, one of which is the article you are critiquing, and the other is a source that you used to understand the design. Appropriateness of the Research Design: In this section, you need to evaluate the appropriateness of the research design used in the study to obtain the needed data. You should explain why you believe the design was appropriate or not appropriate. You should also provide evidence from the literature to support your argument. In addition, you need to address whether the design provides a means to examine all of the objectives, questions, or hypotheses. You should give a rationale for your response and explain how the design allows the researchers to answer their research question. Again, you should provide evidence from the literature to support your argument.
