Perception
Perception is the process of selecting, organizing, and interpreting sensory information to make sense of the world around us. Our understanding of perception can help us become more effective communicators by enabling us to recognize how our own perceptions may differ from those of others. By being aware of our own biases and the potential for misinterpretation, we can take steps to communicate more clearly and accurately with others. According to Devito (2020), “effective communication requires that we be aware of our own perceptions and those of others, and that we be willing to adapt our messages to the perceptions of our audience” (p. 79). By recognizing and adapting to the perceptions of others, we can reduce the likelihood of miscommunication and improve our ability to convey our intended message
