Terry McMillan is an African American author who has significantly influenced African American life and culture through her popular novel, “Waiting to Exhale.” Born on October 18, 1951, in Port Huron, Michigan, McMillan is the daughter of Edward McMillan, a blue-collar worker, and Madeline Washington, a housewife.
