The three cases I have chosen are Dred Scott v. Sandford, Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, and Loving v. Virginia. Each of these cases played a significant role in shaping civil rights in the United States, and their rulings had far-reaching consequences. Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857) was a case that involved a slave, Dred Scott, who sued his owner for his freedom. The Supreme Court ruled that slaves were not citizens and could not sue in court, and that the Missouri Compromise, which had prohibited slavery in the North, was unconstitutional. This decision was highly controversial and contributed to the escalation of tensions between North and South, leading to the Civil War.
