SOLUTION
America’s tradition in foreign policy can be traced back to the early days of the country. In the late 1700s, America’s first president, George Washington, warned against getting entangled in foreign affairs and advocated for a policy of neutrality. This was the foundation of the doctrine of isolationism, which held that the United States should avoid involvement in international conflicts and focus on domestic issues. However, in the early 20th century, America began to shift away from isolationism and towards a more active role in world affairs. This was driven in part by economic interests, as American businesses sought new markets and resources abroad, and in part by a sense of moral obligation to promote democracy and human rights around the world.
